TRAINING ENVIRONMENT
Is this program for you?
Students who are self motivated and are able to learn independently are best suited for this program. If you require external structure (babysitting, threats of expulsion, truancy, poor grades, parental discipline) then this is not the program for you.
Instruction is offered on an individual basis depending on the need of the student as identified by the student. The student will need to ask questions, speak up and not be afraid to ask for help. Then instructors will do their best to determine if students are struggling but it is the student’s responsibility to seek help and identify their needs.
What is the training environment like?
Students will move at their own pace. The training environment is based on an Open Entry / Open Exit model. This means that it is not a lockstep program where all student work on the same projects at the same time. Students will come and go through out the year and will be working on different training programs. Students do have a timeline to complete training programs but are able to move faster or slower within those time frames. Students completing a training module early will be started on the next module early.
Is there a lot of reading and homework?
Yes. However, most students who do not waste time in the lab find there is not much required outside of the lab.
When are lab sessions available?
Students are expected to attend all scheduled lab sessions regardless of their home high school schedule. Students will enroll in one of the following sessions:
Session 1 Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 10:30 am
Session 2 Monday – Friday 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
Session 3 Monday – Thursday 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
How do you grade?
Please refer to the syllabus. (STUDENT RESOURCES | ORIENTATION). You should probably know that most schools will give you 3 or 4 letter grades for the 1 I give you. meaning if you get an A from me you get 3 or 4 A’s. Get a D…and well, you get the point.
Anything else I should know?
Yes. You may be from high school but you are not in high school. This means that you are expected to be mature enough not to require babysitting, discipline, threats of expulsion or bad grades to “motivate” you. You must be self disciplined and self motivated to succeed in this program. There is no makeup work or extra credit. Deadlines exist to complete portions of your training. While you have the freedom to move at your own pace within those deadlines, deadlines still exist and you must meet them.
Your “teacher” is an instructor and a professional trainer. Its all about career training. If you don’t love networks and technology then you are going to be bored and unhappy.
