Program Prerequisites
Successful completion of or equivalent knowledge of the Computer Literacy course and the PC Technician Program or CompTIA A+ certification.
Program Description
The CompTIA Network+ certification covers basic networking concepts for connecting to a network and setting up a small office/home office (SOHO) network. The Network+ certification helps qualify you for the following job roles: network administrator or technician for a small business network, network installer, and help desk technician. A+ training (or equivalent) is recommended before starting your Network+. After completing the Network+ certification, you are prepared to pursue additional certifications such as the MCITP and CCNA.
CompTIA Network+ certification proves knowledge of networking features and functions and is the leading vendor-neutral certification for networking professionals. The exam addresses the latest skills needed by technicians, such as basic principles on how to secure a network. The exam covers network technologies, media and topologies, devices, management, tools and security. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA Network+ candidates have at least nine months of experience in network support or administration or academic training, along with a CompTIA A+ certification.
Candidate job roles include network administrator, network technician, network installer, help desk technician and IT cable installer. Companies such as Dell, HP, Ricoh, Sharp and Xerox recommend or require CompTIA Network+ for their networking technicians. The U.S. Department of Defense also recognizes CompTIA Network+.
In addition Apple has recognized this program as meeting the needs of the ACN. Read more here.

Video Training
With over 130 video lectures and demonstrations with slides, graphics, and white board images that will explain complex concepts in a personable and easy-to-understand way.
Hands-on Lab Simulations
This training lets you work in a simulated environment where you can practice the skills required to become certified. These simulations allow you to demonstrate your understanding while building real-world skills.
Hardware and software labs are completely integrated with each other. With previous A+ labs, every lab was designated as either a hardware lab or a software lab. Now the lab exercises combine both elements into a truly integrated, blended learning experience. With these new A+ labs, you will get an ever better grasp on what you’re learning.
The training includes lab exercises that let you practice both hardware and software networking configuration tasks. Using the included online labs, here are just some of the skills you’ll practice:
- Select and install network interface cards and modems
- Select and connect networking cables
- Configure TCP/IP settings
- Select devices and configure a small network consisting of a switch or a router
- Configure devices for an Internet connection
- Configure a wireless access point and wireless client connections
- Configure the Windows Firewall
- Create a VPN connection
- Use Remote Desktop
- Troubleshoot network connectivity
Written Lessons
The training course also provides you with study guides and fact sheets that you can read to gain further understanding of the concepts covered in all of the training videos, demonstrations, and lab exerc
Certification Practice Exams
Fully integrated section quizzes and practice certification exams that provide you with a realistic experience of what the actual certification exam will be like. Over 1,000 practice questions.
Certification Exams
Passing the JK0-016 (non-educational exam number is N10-004 but is the same exam) exam earns you the CompTIA Network+ certification.
The current version of CompTIA Network+, exam code N10-005, was released Dec. 1, 2011. The revised objectives address virtual networking and give increased attention to network security and coverage of the seven-layer OSI (Open System Interconnection) model.
The previous version, exam code N10-004, will be available through Aug. 31, 2012.
Learn more about the Network+ exam by visiting the CompTIA Network+ homepage here.
MATC does not guarantee that taking these programs will fully prepare you for the certification exams. (But we’re pretty confident and we have a high pass rate for our students!)
