The Security Technician Program covers critical security concepts that every IT administrator should know. While the certification focuses on an understanding of security threats and issues, your hands-on labs takes your training to the next level, letting you apply what you’ve learned to real-life situations.
The Security+ certification is a must-have for any IT administrator, and can also help qualify you for a security administrator job role. The Security+ credential is one of several that fulfills the DoD 8570 requirements.
While anyone with some computer and networking background can benefit from Security+ training, we recommend having A+ and Network+ training (or equivalent) before starting on your Security+. The Security+ certification is similar in scope to the SSCP. After Security+ training, you will be prepared to explore more advanced security training covered in the following products: Server 2003 Security Implementation, Server 2003 Security Design, and CISSP.
Security Technician Program is designed to show that candidates can demonstrates competency in:

This program not only ensures that candidates will apply knowledge of security concepts, tools, and procedures to react to security incidents, it ensures that security personnel are anticipating security risks and guarding against them.
Candidate job roles include security architect, security engineer, security consultant/specialist, information assurance technician, security administrator, systems administrator, and network administrator. Organizations that employ CompTIA Security+ certified staff include Hitachi Information Systems (Japan), Trendmicro (Philippines), Lockheed Martin, the U.S. State Department, Prestariang Systems Sdn. Bhd. (Malaysia) and U.S. government contractors such as EDS, General Dynamics and Northrop Grumman. CompTIA Security+ is one of the options for certifications required by the U.S. Department of Defense, for military personnel or military contractors engaged in information assurance activities.
The CompTIA Security+ certification is accredited by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).The CompTIA Security+ certification may be kept current through the CompTIA Continuing Education program.
